The address at eight fifteen Black Lives Matter Plaza is part of the sprawling National Geographic Society headquarters. A six-story glass and concrete structure occupies this block, identifiable by the oversized, backlit globe that glows through the windows near the corner. In nineteen eighty-four, the Society moved its museum and research operations here to expand its footprint in the city. The building houses the cartographers, editors, and scientists who once relied on ink and paper to map the edges of the known world.
