Four connected townhouses of buff-colored stucco make up Blair House, the official guest residence for the President of the United States. During the Truman administration, while the White House underwent a complete structural overhaul, President Harry Truman lived here for nearly four years. In nineteen fifty, two Puerto Rican nationalists attempted to storm the front steps, leading to a fierce gun battle with Secret Service agents and White House police that left one officer and one attacker dead on the sidewalk.
