Kalorama Park

Kalorama Park occupies the exact footprint of the old Kalorama estate, a grand property once owned by Joel Barlow, the poet and diplomat. When the city began to fill in around the area, developers eyed the mansion's grounds for rows of townhouses. Local residents pushed back for years to save the green space. In nineteen sixty-eight, their efforts succeeded when the District government bought the land. Today, it remains one of the few open, grassy stretches in the neighborhood.
