BALL & CHAIN

food drink

The Ball and Chain features a large, oversized pineapple sculpture sitting above its main entrance on Calle Ocho. This bar first opened in nineteen thirty-five as a jazz club, hosting legends like Count Basie and Billie Holiday while the neighborhood was still a playground for high-society winter residents. It served as a popular watering hole for decades until federal agents raided the establishment in the nineteen fifties, accusing the owners of operating an illegal bookmaking ring behind the bar.
