Los Pinarenos Fruteria stands out for the thick wooden pillars and the overflowing crates of tropical fruits that spill out toward the sidewalk. It began as a small stand in the nineteen sixties, operated by Arsenio and Evangelina Hernandez after they arrived from Pinar del Rio, Cuba. They spent their days squeezing fresh sugarcane juice and arranging mangoes in the shade of the building. Today, their great-granddaughter keeps the juicer running, pressing stalks of cane exactly the way Arsenio did sixty years ago.
