The Tower Theater features a prominent, rounded corner tower rising above the intersection of Southwest Eighth Street. When it opened in nineteen twenty-six, it functioned as the primary movie house for the Little Havana neighborhood. While most theaters of that era played standard American films, this building became the designated cultural hub for the Cuban exile community during the nineteen sixties. Families gathered here to watch Spanish language films and newsreels that connected them to the island they had recently left behind.
