Lake Clara Meer

Lake Clara Meer is the body of water that anchors Piedmont Park, distinguished by the irregular, curved stone walls that line its western edge. Originally created in the eighteen eighties as a reservoir for the city, the lake became the centerpiece of the eighteen ninety-five Cotton States and International Exposition. Frederick Law Olmsted designed the park layout around this water, turning a utilitarian basin into the focal point for visitors who arrived by streetcar to see the fair.
