The red and gold hot air balloon structure anchors the entrance to the Paris Las Vegas hotel. It stands as a half-scale replica of the Montgolfier balloon, which achieved the first manned flight in seventeen eighty-three. When the resort opened in nineteen ninety-nine, the balloon served as a visual tether for the hotel's French theme. Jacques Montgolfier himself was said to have been involved in the design oversight, ensuring the proportions matched the historic original that lifted off over the fields of Annonay.
