Mountain Pavilion

The Mountain Pavilion was a popular nineteenth-century inn situated atop the cliffs of the New Jersey Palisades. Opened in the mid-1830s along the Hackensack Plank Road, it served as a fashionable retreat for wealthy New Yorkers seeking fresh air and sweeping views of the Hudson River and Manhattan. The establishment became a notable landmark in the area, offering visitors a reprieve from the summer heat after they made the two-mile carriage ascent from the Hoboken ferry.
