In the late nineteen seventies, this land was a rubble-strewn lot left behind after the city demolished the crumbling tenements that previously occupied the corner. Local residents took matters into their own hands, clearing away decades of debris and illegal dumping by hand to transform the dangerous eyesore into a neighborhood park. They salvaged bricks, stones, and scrap metal from the ruins to build the very walls and pathways that define the garden today, creating a space born directly from the wreckage of the area’s difficult past.
