Church of the Holy Apostles

The Church of the Holy Apostles stands on Ninth Avenue as a survivor of both architectural history and social upheaval. Built between eighteen forty-five and eighteen forty-eight, it remains one of the few surviving designs by the prominent architect Minard Lafever. While many buildings from that era have vanished, this brick sanctuary has persisted through a massive fire in nineteen ninety-one that gutted its interior and destroyed its original organ. The reconstruction that followed transformed the space, removing fixed pews to create a flexible, open nave that serves the community in ways its original designers never could have anticipated.
