Bowery Savings Bank Building (130 Bowery)

The Bowery Savings Bank Building at one hundred thirty Bowery was designed by the famous architect Stanford White of the firm McKim, Mead and White. Completed in eighteen ninety-five, this structure was built to project an image of absolute strength and reliability following the financial panic of eighteen ninety-three. The bank directors demanded a building that would impress the public with its fortress-like dignity, ensuring depositors that their money was secure. To achieve this, the architects created a grand Roman temple style building that stands as a deliberate, monumental statement of stability.
