The Brooklyn Bridge Lookout places you directly at the edge of an industrial empire that once dominated this entire waterfront. Long before it became a destination for scenic views, these cobblestone streets were the heart of a manufacturing powerhouse known as Gairville. Named for the cardboard box inventor Robert Gair, this district was once so dense with massive brick factories and warehouses that it earned Brooklyn the nickname the Walled City.
