The space you are entering, known locally as the Archway, is a seven thousand square foot cavern directly beneath the massive stone and steel infrastructure of the Manhattan Bridge. For seventeen years, this area remained closed to the public behind heavy metal gates, serving only as a storage depot for municipal equipment. It was eventually reclaimed and redesigned as a public plaza, transforming a formerly inaccessible industrial shadow into a central gathering point for the neighborhood.
