Alexander Hamilton's Gravesite

historic

Alexander Hamilton rests here in Trinity Churchyard, a site that served as his spiritual home long before his death. While he was a prominent lawyer and the first Secretary of the Treasury, he also maintained a formal connection to this parish by renting a family pew. His wife, Eliza, and their children were frequent attendees at services, grounding the family in the life of this congregation. This cemetery, which has been in use since the late seventeenth century, eventually became the setting for his final departure from public life after the fatal 1804 duel with Aaron Burr.
