The building you are approaching at 70 Broad Street was designed specifically to project stability and permanence in the heart of the Financial District. Completed in 1908, this five-story granite structure served as the headquarters for the American Bank Note Company, a firm that dominated the production of banknotes, stock certificates, and postage stamps for decades. While its neighbors were racing upward into the sky, the company intentionally kept this building low and ornate. By commissioning a neo-classical design with overscaled columns, they sought to frame their identity as a solid, trustworthy guardian of the nation's financial documents rather than just another office tenant.
