The Broad Exchange Building at twenty-five Broad Street stands as a massive monument to the speculative real estate boom of the early twentieth century. When it was completed in nineteen zero two, it claimed the title of the largest office building in America. Developers realized they could maximize profits by using advanced steel-frame construction to build higher than ever before. This height allowed them to sell tenants on the promise of better light and air, far removed from the noise and congestion of the street level.
