Herald Square Theatre

The Herald Square Theatre once stood at the intersection of Broadway and Thirty-fifth Street, occupying a site that had previously served as the Great New York Aquarium. When the building was first constructed in eighteen eighty-three as the New Park Theatre, its interior was furnished with decorative elements salvaged from the prestigious Booth's Theatre, which was being torn down at the same time. Eleven years later, the actor and producer Charles Evans took over the lease, renovated the space, and renamed it the Herald Square Theatre. Its debut production under this new identity was the American premiere of George Bernard Shaw's play, Arms and the Man.
