Greenpoint Garden of Eden Pond & Waterfall

park garden

The Greenpoint Garden of Eden began as the private vision of an eccentric local resident named Joseph Zito who transformed an overgrown, debris-filled vacant lot into a landscaped sanctuary. Zito spent decades hauling rocks, planting greenery, and constructing a makeshift waterfall system by hand to create an oasis in the middle of a dense industrial neighborhood. He decorated the space with religious statues, colorful glass, and discarded objects he repurposed into garden art, turning a neglected patch of land into a local landmark that defied the surrounding urban sprawl. The site represented a singular act of personal preservation where one individual redirected the environment to provide a quiet refuge for the public.
