José Quintero Theatre

event

The José Quintero Theatre once stood here on West forty-second Street as a small, ninety-three seat venue that became a distinct part of the off-off-Broadway landscape. Before it served the performing arts, the building began its life in eighteen eighty-seven as a brownstone residence. Its character shifted dramatically in nineteen twenty-three when it was transformed into a nightclub known as the Sleepy Owl Club, a space that remained in operation for over three decades.
