Murder of Timothy Caughman

On March 20, 2017, the Hell's Kitchen neighborhood became the site of a targeted act of terror. Timothy Caughman, a sixty-six-year-old local resident who was widely known as a friendly figure in the community, was collecting recyclable bottles on a street corner when he was attacked from behind. The assailant, a man who had traveled to New York City specifically to commit racially motivated violence, used a short sword to inflict fatal wounds. Despite his injuries, Caughman managed to walk to a nearby police station to seek help before he passed away.
