Kips Bay Towers

You are looking at a classic example of Brutalist architecture that changed the skyline of this neighborhood. Designed by the world-renowned architect I. M. Pei and completed in the mid-sixties, Kips Bay Towers was his first major project in New York City. The complex consists of two twenty-story residential slabs that stand out because of their striking, exposed concrete grid. By using this cast-in-place concrete as both the structure and the finish, Pei was able to create a facade with significantly more windows than the brick-clad buildings common to this area at the time.
