Treadwell Farm Historic District

The Treadwell Farm Historic District stands as a quiet residential enclave between Second and Third Avenues on East 61st and 62nd Streets. Its origins trace back to 1815, when a wealthy fur merchant named Adam Treadwell purchased twenty-four acres of land at a public auction held at the historic Tontine Coffee House. While the area was once part of the colonial-era Van Zandt farm, it was the Treadwell family who held the property through the mid-nineteenth century before its transformation into the neighborhood you see today.
