Little Island's Glockenspiel

Little Island is home to several interactive sensory stations designed by the German firm Richter Spielgeräte, which are scattered throughout the landscape to invite tactile and auditory exploration. Among these is the instrument sometimes referred to as the glockenspiel, a specialized musical station that allows visitors of all ages to create their own melodies while overlooking the Hudson River. These installations are built to withstand the demands of a high-traffic public park, and they are engineered with a practical secret for their longevity. To protect them from vandalism and the elements during the night, some of these instruments are designed to be moved on rollers and tucked away into secure storage beneath the park deck.
