One Vanderbilt serves as a towering neighbor to Grand Central Terminal. Its base features a series of angled cuts specifically designed to reveal the magnificent cornice of the terminal, a sight that had been hidden from the street for nearly a century. This architectural choice honors the historic landmark next door while grounding the modern skyscraper in the existing urban fabric. The building's exterior uses terra cotta, a material that mirrors the historic masonry found throughout the surrounding district.
