Lyric Theatre

The Lyric Theatre you see today is a hybrid structure built in 1998 that physically incorporates the surviving facades of two separate historic venues, the original 1903 Lyric Theatre and the 1920 Apollo Theatre. During the construction process, architectural elements like ceiling domes and proscenium arches were carefully salvaged from the older interiors and integrated into the modern design to bridge the gap between the past and the present. This project was a major part of the revitalization effort for 42nd Street, transforming a block that had once become a center for aging movie houses into a massive, state-of-the-art home for large-scale Broadway spectacles.
