75 Murray Street

The building at 75 Murray Street is known as the Bogardus Mansion and stands as a rare surviving example of nineteenth-century cast-iron architecture. It was built in 1857 and 1858 by James Bogardus, a man who essentially invented the concept of the prefabricated, fireproof cast-iron building. While many such structures once defined the commercial districts of lower Manhattan, this is one of only three fully documented Bogardus buildings still standing in the city.
