Anthony Street Theatre

The Anthony Street Theatre began as a wooden, octagonal circus ring built in eighteen hundred and nine by the equestrian performers Victor Pepin and Jean Breschard. These performers traveled from Europe to display feats of horsemanship, including riders leaping through hoops and vaulting over barriers on galloping horses. The structure stood on the north side of what was then Anthony Street, a thoroughfare later renamed Worth Street, which served as a gateway to the notorious Five Points district.
