River House (New York City)

River House was built in 1931 as a pinnacle of elite Manhattan living, standing on a site that once housed a bustling cigar factory. The building is designed in a striking Art Deco style, featuring a central tower flanked by two wings that create a U-shaped footprint. A key element of its original luxury was a private yacht dock on the East River, which allowed residents to sail directly to their estates on Long Island. This amenity was famously severed in the 1930s when the city constructed the FDR Drive, a massive infrastructure project that cut between the building and the water.
