Crabapple Grove Riverside Park

Crabapple Grove is a four-acre garden that serves as a historic entrance into Riverside Park near 91st Street. Many of the trees here date back to the 1930s and 1940s, when they were planted as part of major public works projects led by Parks Commissioner Robert Moses. These original trees were chosen for their hardy nature and their unusual multi-stemmed form, which allows their gnarled, craggy branches to grow low to the ground and twist elegantly in multiple directions.
