Beacon Theatre

The Beacon Theatre was built in nineteen twenty-nine as a grand movie palace designed to transport patrons into a world of fantasy. Architect Walter Ahlschlager drew inspiration from Renaissance, Ancient Greek, Roman, and Rococo styles to create an interior meant to overwhelm the senses. Its rotunda lobby was specifically designed to contrast with the smaller ticket lobbies, creating an intentional sense of awe as visitors stepped deeper into the building. To complete this immersive atmosphere, Danish artist Valdemar Kjoldgaard adorned the walls with elaborate murals.
