Isaac L. Rice Mansion

The Isaac L. Rice Mansion stands as a rare survivor from a time when Riverside Drive was envisioned as the grandest residential boulevard in New York City. Completed in nineteen oh three, it is one of only two freestanding mansions left on the street. While developers once filled the area with dozens of these opulent, private homes, this building remains to represent that era of Gilded Age ambition. It was designed by the architectural firm Herts and Tallant, who were better known for building Broadway theaters, and they brought a theatrical flair to the home. The structure blends Georgian and Beaux-Arts styles to create an imposing facade that helped define the prestige of the neighborhood over a century ago.
