Kaufman Music Center

The Kaufman Music Center building is an example of raw-concrete Brutalist architecture designed by Ashok Bhavnani. When it opened in 1978 as the Abraham Goodman House, the structure received the Albert S. Bard Trust Award for excellence in architecture. Its design was intended to house a complex mix of community education and professional performance spaces under one roof. While its stark exterior once defined the building's aesthetic, a major renovation in 2007 by Robert A.M. Stern Architects updated the facade and lobby to create a more transparent and welcoming connection to the street.
