The Greystone

The Greystone at 212 West 91st Street stands on land that remained in the hands of the Astor estate for over fifty years, serving as one of the final undeveloped plots in this section of the city. In 1922, builders Samuel and Henry Blumenthal purchased the site, ending the family's long-standing grip on this corner of Broadway. They commissioned the architectural firm of Schwartz and Gross to transform the land, and by 1924, a grand fourteen-story hotel rose in its place. The building was designed by two graduates of the Hebrew Technical Institute who became known for defining much of the early twentieth-century residential landscape of the Upper West Side.
