Marie's Crisis

Marie's Crisis occupies the former residence of Thomas Paine, the influential political theorist and author of Common Sense. Paine spent his final days in this building in eighteen-oh-nine, while it functioned as a grocery store on the ground floor. The site carries his name today because of the proximity to his historical deathbed, linking the revolutionary spirit of the eighteenth century to the modern atmosphere inside.
