Plage de Maldormé

Plage de Maldormé is a narrow, rocky strip tucked directly beneath the steep limestone cliffs of the Corniche Kennedy. While most Marseille beaches offer wide stretches of sand, this spot consists of jagged concrete platforms and treacherous stairs built to provide access to the deep, turquoise water. In the nineteen thirties, the city installed these heavy concrete piers to tame a shoreline that was otherwise impossible to reach. Swimmers still dive from these same weathered ledges into the Mediterranean today.
