Coulée Verte René-Dumont

The Coulée Verte René-Dumont rises above the twelfth arrondissement on a viaduct of rosy brick arches. It stretches three miles along the former Vincennes railway line, which once carried steam trains into the heart of the city until the line closed in nineteen sixty-nine. Architect Philippe Mathieux and landscape architect Jacques Vergely transformed these abandoned tracks into an elevated garden. They planted rosebushes and climbing plants, turning the heavy industrial passage into a quiet path suspended above the busy Parisian streets.
