The Atelier Lurçat features a stark, white, cubic facade punctured by a massive glass studio window that climbs nearly to the roof. Jean Lurçat commissioned architect André Lurçat to build this home and workspace in nineteen twenty-five. The artist famously spent years here reviving the medieval art of tapestry, working with thick wools and bold colors. When the Germans occupied Paris, Jean Lurçat left the city to join the Resistance, hiding his clandestine activities behind the silent, modernist geometry of this studio.
