Fontaine du Fellah

The Fontaine du Fellah features a stone statue of an Egyptian water carrier nestled into a shallow wall niche on the Rue de Sèvres. Commissioned in eighteen oh six, the monument commemorates the return of clean water to the neighborhood during the reign of Napoleon. The central figure wears a traditional loincloth and balances two heavy buckets, a style inspired by the Egyptian campaign. It remains the only fountain in the city that explicitly honors that military venture through its design and artistic form.
