The Jardin des Petites Rigoles stands on land that held a metal machining factory, the Etablissements Kemmler, until 2005. When the factory closed, local residents launched a successful campaign to prevent real estate developers from buying the site, urging the city of Paris to transform the area into a public green space instead. Opened in 2019, the garden now serves as a community landmark that hides a complex history beneath its modern walkways.
