Square Lauriston

Square Lauriston and its surrounding area in the sixteenth arrondissement contain a history that many in Paris still find difficult to discuss. The street is primarily known for the building at number ninety-three, which served as the headquarters for a group of French criminals during the German occupation of World War Two. These men acted as auxiliary agents for the Gestapo, operating under the name of the Carlingue, or the Bonny-Lafont gang. While the neighborhood appears quiet today, it was once a site where residents frequently heard the sounds of torture echoing from the cellar of this mansion.
