Café des 2 Moulins

The Cafe des Deux Moulins takes its name from the two historic windmills that once dominated this part of the Montmartre district, the Moulin Rouge and the Moulin de la Galette. While the establishment opened its doors at the beginning of the twentieth century, it did not adopt this specific name until the nineteen fifties. Its location at the corner of Rue Lepic and Rue Cauchois places it in a neighborhood once defined by these massive structures used for grinding grain and milling flour. Today, those windmills are distant memories or landmarks, but the cafe preserves their association through its name and its position within the storied landscape of the eighteenth arrondissement.
