Passy Cemetery

Passy Cemetery sits tucked away just behind the Trocadero, occupying a quiet, elevated space that overlooks the Seine. It opened in 1820 and quickly became the preferred burial ground for the city's elite, earning it the reputation as the aristocratic necropolis of Paris. The cemetery grounds are sheltered by hundreds of horse chestnut trees, providing a canopy that keeps the atmosphere intimate and removed from the bustle of the nearby streets. Its unique entrance, designed by Rene Berger in the 1930s, features an Art Deco style that stands as a distinct contrast to the more traditional 19th century mausoleums found within.
