Atelier Lurçat

museum

You are standing before the Maison-atelier Lurçat, a masterpiece of modern architecture completed in 1925. It was built for the artist Jean Lurçat by his brother, the architect André Lurçat, who was a leading figure of the Modern Movement alongside figures like Le Corbusier. At the time of its construction, this area was a quiet, working-class pocket near the rue de la Tombe-Issoire, chosen by the brothers because the nearby neighborhood of Montparnasse had become prohibitively expensive for working artists.
