Parc Montsouris

Parc Montsouris stands on a foundation much more unsettling than its gentle English gardens suggest. Before the land became a public park in the late nineteenth century, it was a massive, abandoned granite quarry. Worse, this site sat directly atop a section of the city's labyrinthine catacombs. Engineers had to exhume and relocate roughly eight hundred human skeletons that had been resting in these tunnels before they could safely begin construction on the surface.
