Place Marcel Paul honors a man who rose from the most humble beginnings to shape the structure of modern France. Marcel Paul began his life as a foundling, discovered on the streets of Paris in July of nineteen hundred. He spent his youth working as an electrician and rising through the ranks of the trade union movement, eventually becoming a pivotal figure in the French Resistance during the second world war. After surviving imprisonment in the Buchenwald concentration camp, he served as a minister in the postwar government, where he championed the nationalization of electricity and gas to rebuild the nation. This square stands as a quiet tribute to his legacy as both a laborer and a statesman.
