You are standing on what was once the operational backbone of the French railway network, specifically the customs and logistics hub for the Compagnie des Chemins de Fer de l'Est. In 1926, the railway company expanded its operations significantly and relocated its dedicated shipping and customs offices to a building on this site. While the original railway infrastructure has since been repurposed, the name persists to honor those workers who managed the immense flow of goods moving between Paris and the eastern regions of France.
