Place Leon Blum

You are standing in what was formerly known as Place Voltaire. The city of Paris renamed this square in nineteen fifty-seven to honor Leon Blum, the prominent socialist leader and three-time prime minister of France. Blum was the first Jewish person to head the French government, and his political life was deeply shaped by his early involvement in the defense of Alfred Dreyfus during the late nineteenth century.
