Pont Charles-de-Gaulle

The Pont Charles-de-Gaulle holds the distinction of being the most recent road bridge built across the Seine in Paris. Completed in 1996, its construction was a direct response to the intense congestion on the nearby Pont d'Austerlitz, which for years had carried the heaviest traffic of any bridge in the capital. By creating this new crossing, city planners successfully established a vital, high-capacity link between the Gare de Lyon and the Gare d'Austerlitz, effectively streamlining transit in this corner of the city.
