Jardin des Archives Nationales

The Jardin des Archives Nationales is a quiet sanctuary carved out of the dense urban fabric of the Marais district. You are walking through a space that connects a series of historic mansions, or hôtels particuliers, that were once the private residences of French nobility. The gardens themselves occupy approximately eight thousand square meters of land and were designed to create four distinct atmospheric landscapes. These sections evolved from the private grounds of different townhouses, including the Hôtel de Rohan and the Hôtel de Soubise, which now serve as the home for France's national historical documents. Before these grounds became public in two thousand eleven, they were long hidden behind the walls of these aristocratic estates.
